SUMMARY OF PROJECT:
The majority of motor neuron disease (MND) patients die as a result of respiratory failure. Dr Matthew Kiernan from the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute at the University of New South Wales has received a grant from Australian Rotary Health and Rotary District 9650 to trial a strength-training program for the respiratory muscles of patients. It is hoped that this will slow the decline of the muscles and give another option for treating this fatal disease.
