Royce Abbey – Inaugural Chairman of the Board of Australian Rotary Health
Albert Henry Royce Abbey, AO, DCM, was born in Melbourne in 1922 and was invited to join the Rotary Club of Essendon in 1954. Royce quickly moved through the ranks of Rotary service and was elected to the Board of Rotary International in 1976.
In 1981 Royce was invited to chair the steering committee of Australian Rotary Health and when the Fund was officially inaugurated in 1983, Royce was unanimously elected Chairman of the first Board of Directors and remained in that office for the next five years until his year of service as President of Rotary International in 1988-89.
Royce was named a Life Member of the Fund in November 1989 and became Patron in November 1999.
