Research Requirements
Australian Rotary Health has been established by the Rotarians of Australia with the following objectives:
♦ To provide financial support to Research Projects within Australia which will enhance the Health of the Community;
♦ To stimulate research activities within Australia by facilitating communication between participants in specified fields;
♦ To encourage projects which may have a practical outcome capable of being applied by community groups
Applications for research grants during 2009 are now called for in respect of research into Mental Illness:
In addition to the usual criteria of excellence and track record, priority will be given to innovated research applications. Applications will be assessed on the extent to which they:
♦ Utilise relevant and well planned partnerships across disciplines, consumers and carers, scientists, non-government agencies, government or business groups, and/or across the health, education, welfare and other human service sectors in their design, implementation and dissemination of results;
♦ Focus specifically on interventions (which may include promotion, prevention, early intervention, treatment or rehabilitation) which have the potential to improve the mental health of Australians of all ages.
In the first instance research projects will be funded for one year. However funding will continue to focus on mental illness for 4 more years and researchers are encouraged to plan projects which may extend beyond the initial year.
To qualify, projects must be undertaken within a university, public hospital, or other body approved under Section 78 of the Income Assessment Act.
► Applications for research project grants which request funding to cover the stipend of a PhD student are not acceptable. Funding for PhD scholarhsips are advertised seperately.
► Principal researchers will not have their salaries funded.
► On-costs are to be kept to a minimum.
